The April 2015 Nepal earthquake, also known as the Gorkha earthquake, struck at 11:56 Nepal Standard Time on 25 April 2015 with a magnitude of 7.8Mw — the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the 1934 Nepal-Bihar earthquake. Nearly 9,000 people were killed and 22,000 injured. The earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, killing 21 people. Hundreds of thousands were made homeless, and centuries-old UNESCO World Heritage Sites across the Kathmandu Valley were destroyed.
MOSU's Immediate Response
Morang Sunsari Welfare Society (MOSU) immediately mobilised all its branch committees, members, and well-wishers to raise funds and deploy a relief team. A dedicated relief distribution committee was formed under the coordination of MOSU Nepal President Gokul Bahadur Thapa, comprising First Vice President Badri Vimali and General Secretary Uttam Shrestha Sen.
An emergency team of 11 members — including 6 MOSU officials and 2 vehicle drivers — departed for Ramechhap on 2072 Jestha 24 (June 7, 2015) at 3:15 AM, reaching the distribution site the same morning.

Learnings and Acknowledgements
The team noted that prior ground reconnaissance of the affected area, combined with local coordination with ward-level administration, significantly improved distribution efficiency. Special thanks are due to local officials who facilitated smooth operations on the ground.
This mission exemplified what MOSU stands for: when Nepal suffers, the MOSU family rises — together, regardless of borders.
